New Student FAQ
What
|
Our classes mostly involve partner-based training and, with exception of a few advanced classes that require testing to participate, classes are for all levels. Before you start getting nervous, keep in mind that we have many tools to help beginners get comfortable quickly (New Student Workshops, Flexible Curriculum, Video Tutorials) as well as the friendliest and most helpful group of people training here! Remember, everyone was a beginner as some point!

Since I'm a beginner,

The instructors do many things to ease the new student into the class process, such as switching partners throughout the class, asking students to work within their own pace, and offering adjustments and variations so that everyone can train. Also, our students are used to working with new students and understand the process of "cultivating confidence".

You don't need anything special to start; just workout clothes, a water bottle if you have one, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn! We have all the equipment you need to get started!
We don't allow street shoes on the mats! What defines a street shoe? Any foot ware that has been worn outside on streets, sidewalks, playing fields, backwards, etc. Most people train barefoot but some like to wear wrestling or boxing shoes, martial arts shoes, low profile trainers....whatever you are comfortable in. |
Do you offer private lessons?
|
Yes we do! We have many qualified students and instructors in all areas. Sometimes space can be limited so click here if you are interested in private lessons and we can get the ball rolling!
|
Is there parking?
|
Street parking only! Do NOT park on the east side of the building or at West Seattle Brewery - you will be towed!

What
|
If you are arriving late to class, stand ready at the mat and wait for the instructor to acknowledge you. Ask the instructor if and what can be done during the reminder of the class. If approved, bow in and join the group or start your solo training.
