Adult
Testing & Ranking

Seattle Integrated Martial Arts involves both an internal school ranking system as well as an affiliate ranking system. We currently rank students in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kali (Filipino martial arts)/JKD.

Students must first pass what is called the Entry Level Test to begin the ranking process. This test is free and scheduled online or at the dojo. Students are given access to the Entry Level Test material when they enroll as a regular student.

Students are not automatically given rank because they have met the minimum class time required and passed the test. Consistently demonstrating the attributes of a good student is equally important.

How
it
Works

How to get started:
  1. Confirm that you are on the tuition plan needed to test at your next rank level.
  2. Review the testing material on the Student Portal.
  3. At the minimum, attend classes (sign in on the tablet) and meet the minimum class time required for each rank in addition to the elements listed below.
  4. Register for your test and pay your testing fee on the Student Portal.
  5. Attend your test date!

IMPORTANT!
Your minimum eligibility to rank is determined by your class time in addition to demonstrating:

  • Technical skill and proficiency.
  • Being a good student: bringing an open, humble, helpful and positive attitude to the dojo and treating fellow students, staff, instructors and visitors with respect.
  • Practicing a good training ethic: working the material with an adaptive and innovative mindset that meets Guro Dan Inosanto's JKD philosophy.

FAQ
What if I'm already ranked under another school or system?
Students that are ranked under a different discipline or system must test and rank under our system.

How often do you have testing?
We have testing about every three months. Test dates are posted in advance on the school bulletin board, our website and announced by email.

What if I can't attend my test date?
We test every quarter (3 months) and dates are posted well in advance on the website and school bulletin boards. As a student, you are expected to track those dates and plan accordingly. If you have an emergency and can't attend the posted test date, contact us here.

Am I required to test?
Students are encouraged but not required to test.

Is there a fee to test?
Yes, see your tuition plan for pricing.

Do I need to register for the test?
Yes! You must register online before the deadline. You'll find this info on the website, school bulletin board and on the Test Registration page on the Student Portal.
