IMPORTANT UPDATE

Effective March 2021, our Juniors, and Seniors program is CLOSED to new students.

We no longer offer a Little Dragons program and our minimum age has changed to 7 years old.

Unfortunately, we don't anticipate openings in our youth program anytime soon . When we do, we'll send out an email announcement. Potential new students must observe class (by appointment only) and then go through a 12-week evaluation process. Not every student is invited into our regular program.

Please check our website, follow our Instagram for announcements, or message us to be added to our waiting list.

Thank you!

Juniors

Ages 7-10
Our Junior students still get to have fun with "games"  but we call them drills. The drills develop specific attributes and skills but they also learn more techniques and training methods. It's a good balance of kickboxing, weaponry, grappling and self-defense. They also begin to discuss, in detail, concepts such as respect, courtesy, discipline, self-confidence and more.

Effective March 2021, our Juniors program is FULL. Please message us to join our email for announcements about openings in this program. Thank you!

The
Class

Signing in, technique, partner training, drills, and the art of breathing...
At this level in the program, students are expected to take more responsibility for their training. Every student is required to sign in on the tablet before class and have their equipment and water bottle ready. They must also wear their full uniform to every class. Jewelry, hats, perfume or cologne, and other accessories are not allowed.

Class begins with students lining up in the seated position on the mat. We then recite the Juniors salutation and usually do a 3-5 minute meditation to calm, balance and focus our minds in preparation for training.

Juniors train individually and work with partners while learning self-defense through kickboxing, stick work and more.

During the last 5 minutes of class, Sifu Bob and Si Hing Anthony explore "Powerful Words" with our students through an interactive discussion about respect, self-discipline, bullying, compassion, and so much more.

What do the kids call the instructors? Students should address the Head Instructor as "Sifu Bob." Assistant male instructors are called "Si Hing _____" and female instructors are called "Si Jay _____."

What is the student to teacher ratio? Our class size averages 16-20 kids with 2-4 instructors and assistants on hand, depending on overall class size.

Juniors Salutation

Achieving our best...
Our Juniors salutation is recited by our students at the beginning of each class and sets the expectation for how we practice and use our mixed martial arts training.
"I will strive to achieve my personal best;
to use my knowledge of the martial arts to help myself and others;
to never be abusive and only use my skill in self-defense."

Did you Know?

Your Junior is learning the JKD (Jeet Kune Do) style of mixed martial arts. We train in multiple disciplines so that we're always evolving and adapting our martial arts practice; including our body, mind and spirit, to meet life with a peaceful positive attitude and a sense of strength through self-discipline and humility.

Sticks,
Gloves, Belts
& Gis

Respect, honor and a sense of tradition...
Oh yes, our Juniors use escrima sticks and training gloves in class! The stick work comes from the Kali (Filipino Martial Arts) curriculum which are used mostly as "tools" to develop coordination, control, perceptual speed, awareness, and more.

Students are responsible for caring for their sticks, gloves and uniform by keeping them clean and using them with respect in and out of class.

How can you get the uniform and equipment? You can purchase these items for your student at your enrollment appointment. Click here to see tuition and uniform pricing.

Earning
Belts,
Stripes
& Stars

Attitude, attendance and being a good student matter...
Our Juniors earn belts, stripes and stars for attendance, homework, attitude, and for progressing in their martial arts. They are tested and ranked by belt throughout the year. They must show a positive, respectful and helpful attitude and demonstrate proficiency in the arts they're learning!
  • For every 6 classes they attend, students earn a stripe on their belt!
  • For turning in their completed "Powerful Words" homework on time, students earn a star to wear on their gi!
  • And for a positive attitude, an eagerness to learn and showing good technique in their martial arts, they earn colored belts!
We give out new belts at the end of class or during one of our belt promotion ceremonies! Watch the video below!
